The muscles are made of protein. This statement is quite obvious to us all. So, to increase muscle mass, as well as, obviously, you need to produce proteins. This can be found in eggs, meat, fish, cottage cheese or protein concentrates, such as protein powder.
To appreciate the importance of proteins in the body, it should be understood that the cells of the body are constantly replaced by new ones. The fabric, composed of proteins, is in a state of flux, continually revised as old cells die and new cells replace. Science has shown that 99% of the atoms in your body are replaced within a year. Every cell in your body is always recycled. The protein is what is used for the creation of new cells. These parts of your body. Skin, hair, bones, hormones and antibodies are composed of proteins. Put water, the protein is the most abundant substance in your body. Like other nutrients, proteins are made of carbon, hydrogen and oxygen. But unlike other nutrients, proteins are the nutrients that provide nitrogen in the body. Therefore, by measuring the amount of nitrogen in the faeces than the amount absorbed, one can estimate the amount of protein used for muscle growth. If the difference is positive, then the muscle is in progress. But if the difference is negative, there is a negative balance of nitrogen and the body literally begins to eat its own muscles for energy. The proteins are broken down by digestive acids as protease smaller units called peptides. This occurs in the stomach, where acidic conditions are necessary for the digestion of proteins. The peptides are further digested by peptidases located in the duodenum, amino acids. This is what the body absorbs and uses it effectively to form the body’s tissues, including muscle.
There are 20 amino acids that are necessary for body growth. Eleven of them are naturally in the body and are therefore called non-essential amino acids. The nine remaining must be ingested in the body since it can not synthesize and therefore are called essential amino acids. Foods that contain these two types of amino acids in the exact amounts because they are necessary for the body are called complete protein. Only when all the amino acids are available can push the muscles of the body. Otherwise, it begins to decompose the body tissues in sufficient amounts of essential amino acids for growth and repair. Therefore, the lack of these amino acids did not lead to muscle wasting.
